Race to Health is a website which allows schools and other groups to participate in a time-limited physical exercise challenge (recording the exercise each participant undertakes). Schools sign up to take part in the race by providing their teaching staff’s e-mail address and which class they teach. The teachers then enter the name, school, class, gender of pupils in their class. If a teacher is unable to do this for any reason then a member of staff from Camden Learning can do this with their permission as a systems administrator. This data is not shared with any third parties.
The purpose of Race to Health, which was originally developed by the London Borough of Camden, is to raise the profile of and increase the amount of physical activity done by children in Camden and Islington by enabling them to take part in a school vs. school physical activity challenge against other schools in the borough. Evaluation reports are provided to schools on their total number of active minutes and the average number of daily physical active minutes done by their pupils, broken down by; whole school, gender, class/year group. Not by individual pupils. This allows schools to raise the profile of the importance of physical activity as well as guiding where best to resource their provision for the year.
The collection of basic personal data is necessary for the running of Race to Health. We carry out processing on the basis of a contract with schools and/or local authorities.
Personal data is submitted by the school or library staff. Schools use data drawn from class registers while libraries enrol people who wish to participate (usually face to face) and who have completed the form (with parental consent for under 13s participating). As the Data Controller, organisations contracting to use Race to Health are responsible for ensuring that the data subject’s rights are met and that processing is valid. The data collected is uploaded to a website maintained by Epilog Creative, under our contract with them.
